Nyree Dawn Alfonso is the Managing Partner of N.D. Alfonso & Co. and a distinguished Attorney-at-Law with 36 years of experience in commercial, maritime, insurance and public law. She is called to the Bar in Trinidad and Tobago, the OECS (St. Kitts Nevis jurisdiction), Guyana and Grenada and is soon to be called in St. Lucia.

Ms. Alfonso holds a LL.B from the University of the West Indies, a LL.M in Commercial and Corporate Law from King’s College London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law (Merit) from Lloyd’s Maritime Academy. She is also an Accredited Director.

Renowned for her expertise in Admiralty and Maritime Law, Ms. Alfonso has acted in complex ship arrests, charterparty and other maritime disputes, salvage claims, collision claims, marine insurance claims, bunkering and demurrage claims, arbitrations and in an advisory capacity to international shipowners/operators, insurers,  P&I Clubs and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Ms. Alfonso has extensive experience in ship acquisitions and sales. She has also served at the board level in the public and private sectors, including as Chairperson of the First Citizens Bank Group.

She is currently the Chairperson of Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited and remains a leading advocate for the rights and protection of seafarers across the region and internationally. Ms. Alfonso has collaborated for over three decades with the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and is responsible for securing payment of the wages and  the repatriation of hundreds of foreign seafarers.
